Elisabeth McMillan

For this week's tip of the week.  I want to encourage you all to attend tonight's webinar, Smart Financial Planning for Horse Professionals.  The presentation will take a realistic look at  both the pitfalls and opportunities that affect horse professionals when creating a financial plan. We will share practical experiences on how when strategies for equestrian career planning and horse business financial planning are coordinated to work together more can be achieved on both fronts.

The presentation will begin with an overview of risks specific to horse professionals and equine business owners. It will conclude with some practical experinece based strategies for creating finacial security while building a successful equestrian career.

First, Reed Schroeder of Schroeder Insurance Group will discuss two of the greatest areas of risk that should be considered when purchasing insurance. The first is protecting your physical assets. The second area willl look at options that can help you protect your income in case of injury.

Next, Sheryl Kursar of the Equestrian Aid Foundation will talk about some of the most common incidences that lead equestrians to seek help from Equestrian Aid and what support can be offered. She will also discuss what some of the most common reasons aid can not be secured or is denied.

Finally, we will discuss some key principles for coordinating your career stage with your financial plan. this will include how to recognize opportunities at each career stage and where to get help. Plus, key aspects to consider when balancing long and short term financial and career goals. I will also share my personal story of how I started my business with $3,000 and a Sear's garden shed and 10 years later purchased my own farm which later sold for nearly $3,000,000.
