Home | More About Us | Tonya Johnston, MA.

Tonya Johnston, MA.

Tonya Johnston, MA, is a sport psychology consultant and horseshow competitor who specializes in working with equestrian athletes. Her consulting sessions provide support and insight for riders while helping them develop personalized mental preparation routines. Tonya's clients have attained competitive success at every level, including national titles, medal finals and awards. A recent speaker at both the USEA and USDF national conventions, she conducts USHJA-Affiliated “Sport Psychology for Riders” clinics throughout the country as well as in-person and phone consultations with individual clients.

Tonya teaches in the master's program in Sport Psychology at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California; her courses include Performance Enhancement A & B, and The Psychology of Injury.

There are several important points about what Tonya offers professionals. Including that she:

  • Travels all over the country doing clinics that contain both un-mounted and mounted portions in order to teach sport psychology skills and help riders integrate them into their riding and showing.
  • Always asks for trainers to give input to her when she works individually with riders to get their perspective and ideas about how that person performs.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regard to session content, but encourages clients to inform trainers what they are working on, as it can greatly assist the process.
  • Consults with trainers both for their own performance enhancement in training and the show ring, but also helps trainers brainstorm and develop programs to help them be more effective with particular clients or enhance their communication skills as a whole.
  • Facilitates meetings with riders and their trainers to develop improved lines of communication and to generate movement through road blocks or specific challenges.
  • During the mounted portion of Tonya's clinics trainers are always on hand to sort out any horse issues or training issues that present themselves during the session. Tonya's entire focus is on building mental strength, and does not deal with riding instruction at all.
  • Consults individually with clients all over the country on the phone, provides written materials, and support via email and text.

We encourage you to learn more about Tonya here on the Equestrian Professional.com site and by visiting Tonya directly at www.TonyaJohnston.com

 TESTIMONIALS

Here's what our members are saying ...

"I can't say enough about how valuable your site is to our barn."
  So-Cal H/J Trainer

"Elisabeth's development of the "Equestrian Professional" Website brought a much needed financial template to the U.S.E.A. Instructor Certification Program. We on the committee thank her for coming to New Orleans and speaking at our annual meeting. Her insight into the financial matters that are so necessary in the equestrian community will be invaluable to professionals at all levels. We recommend her highly and believe her innovative website will set a new standard of excellence."

Brian Sabo - United States Eventing Association ICP Committee Member

"The first download I did - nailed exactly what was going on with me!"

J. Foreman

"I signed up a couple months ago and found that just taking the time to read through their stuff puts me in the mindset to think wisely about my business, In fact, I made a pretty sketchy little marketing plan and shortly thereafter I sold three good horses and pulled myself out of debt, right when the economy has been tanking. This kind of business management tool is only what you make of it, but Elisabeth McMillan and her staff have done some really good work on behalf of horse professionals"
